Serbia has decided to send a unit of its armed forces to Moscow on May 9.
At a time when Europe seems disoriented and too busy finding a way to respond to the 'whims' of US President Donald Trump, Serbia is returning to "flirting" with "old love".
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who is in the midst of the "trouble" of mass protests that have occupied Belgrade for months, has confirmed in a phone conversation with Russian despot Vladimir Putin that he will participate in the upcoming May 9 parade in Moscow.
" I had an excellent conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on all key issues related to our bilateral cooperation and confirmed that our meeting in Moscow on May 9 will take place ," Vucic said in a video message on Instagram, TASS reports .
Putin has invited the leaders of many countries to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, which will also include Vučić, who has been absent from the parades for the past three years due to Western pressure. With the arrival of Trump, this seems to have been completely undone.
Also, some countries that fought against German Nazism, Italian fascism and Japanese militarism, in particular, Belarus, Mongolia and Myanmar, will send their parade units to participate in the May 9th Parade on Moscow's Red Square. The last time, allied troops marched on Moscow's Red Square during the Parade on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Victory in 2010.
But it doesn't end there, in addition to Vučić's visit, Serbia has decided to send a unit of its armed forces to Moscow on May 9.
The news was confirmed by the Kremlin press office, which said that Vucic confirmed to Putin during a phone conversation that a parade unit of the Serbian armed forces will arrive in Moscow for the Victory Day celebration on May 9.
“ Aleksandar Vučić reaffirmed that he would come to Moscow for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the [Soviet Union's] Victory in the Great Patriotic War [1941-1945] and would also send a unit of the Serbian armed forces for its participation in the May 9th Parade ,” the Kremlin press office said in a statement.
In a post on his social network "Instagram", Vučić said that he had discussed with Putin the increase in political, economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, while he did not hesitate to call the phone call between them meaningful.
"We discussed cooperation with Russian Railways, mainly how and under what conditions we should sign an agreement on natural gas before May 31, and the situation around NIS, given the US sanctions imposed on the Serbian oil company ," Vučić concluded.
With a weakened EU in the face of Trump and massive protests shaking his power day by day, Vučić seems to be looking for a strong ally he can rely on in any case./ Pamphlet
