"You let me down"/ Trump 'hits' Putin, demands temporary oil

US President Donald Trump has turned his attention back to the war in Ukraine, once again expressing his disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In a recent interview, Trump openly said: "Putin disappointed me," a statement that comes amid his efforts to portray himself as the man who can immediately stop the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Trump suggested that one way to stop the bloodshed is for the US and its allies to temporarily halt oil drilling, lowering global energy prices. This, he said, would significantly damage the Russian economy and force Putin to rethink the conflict. “If the price of oil drops drastically, they will no longer be able to finance this war,” Trump said.

He declared that during his presidency such a war would never have happened. “Putin wouldn’t do this if I were in the White House,” he said, accusing current President Joe Biden of weakness and a lack of international respect.

Trump also highlighted the tragic consequences of the conflict, noting that between 5,000 and 7,000 people are killed on the front lines every week, a shocking figure that is not evoking the necessary response, according to him.

The former US president called on European countries to reduce their dependence on Russian energy and use their economic power to put pressure on the Kremlin.
