German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the "biggest poison" for the economies of Europe and the United States is the ongoing uncertainty regarding trade tariffs and stressed that this situation must end.
In a statement to German broadcasters, Merz said he expects the pressure on German companies to ease after yesterday's US Supreme Court ruling, which limited the way the US administration has imposed tariffs.
He announced that he will coordinate closely with other European Union countries to define a common position ahead of his upcoming visit to the United States.
According to Merz, the Supreme Court's decision appears to leave sectoral tariffs, such as those on steel, aluminum, and vehicles, in place, meaning that some trade measures still remain active.
