Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has delivered a clear message that there will be no Palestinian state, during a signing ceremony to advance a controversial settlement plan in the occupied West Bank.
"We will keep our promise, there will be no Palestinian state, this land belongs to us, " Netanyahu said during his visit to the Maale Adumim settlement, east of Jerusalem.
The E1 plan for the construction of 3,400 settler homes, which would divide the occupied West Bank and cut it off from East Jerusalem, was approved last month by the Israeli government, prompting reactions from the European Union and the United Nations.
The settlement of the West Bank, a Palestinian territory bordering Jordan, has continued since 1967 under all Israeli governments, from left to right. It intensified under Netanyahu, especially after the war in the Gaza Strip began in October 2023.
