United States President Donald Trump's statement about a ceasefire request from Iran has created uncertainty regarding the identity of the Iranian official he mentions.
In his post on Truth Social, Trump refers to the "president of the new regime" in Iran, without identifying him by name.
According to international media reports, earlier this week Trump confirmed that the US is in contact with the speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. However, he does not hold the position of president and is not considered a more moderate figure compared to previous leaders.
Meanwhile, Iran's current president, Masoud Pezeshkian, who has held office since 2024, stated that his country is ready to accept a ceasefire, but only if guarantees are provided for security and to avoid new attacks.
Recent statements also indicate a change in Trump's stance regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Last week, he warned that the US could strike Iranian energy facilities if safe passage for ships through the strait is not guaranteed. More recently, he has stated that the United States is ready to end the conflict even without resolving this issue, emphasizing that other countries must take greater responsibility, as they are more directly affected by the situation.
