Social media in Turkey was abuzz with the news of a gruesome murder that took place in the Tasuluk neighborhood of Istanbul's Arnavutkoy district, where a man shot his wife in the head in broad daylight in front of passers-by after a verbal altercation between them.
According to media reports, 40-year-old Harun Gul fired several bullets into the head of his wife, Serpil Gul, 35, on Saturday, which led to her instant death.
"Don't do it, think about the children", the woman could be heard saying to her ex-husband, who, after running after her, shot her three times with a gun.
Femicide has increased in recent years in Turkey, especially after its withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention on the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Human rights reports have shown that a large percentage of those killed were victims of murders committed by husbands or ex-partners, as many cases of premeditated killings of women are recorded in Turkey every year.
