A threat that comes in the form of a joke. The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation responded with irony to a statement by the spokesperson of the US State Department that Moscow will never recover Alaska.
"According to representatives of the State Department, Russia will not take back Alaska, which was sold to the United States in the 19th century. Then that was it. We expected that it was only a matter of days before it would be ours again. Now war is inevitable," Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia's security council.
The US State Department official's response came from a reporter's question regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin's moves to declare the sale of Alaska illegal through an executive order.
Irony was not absent in the reaction of the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moscow.
Maria Zakharova, asked by CNN, regarding Putin's words that Russia is returning territories as in the time of Peter the Great, said that the journalist is worried about Alaska.
