Venezuelan police have arrested 32 people, civilians and military, after a month-long investigation into their participation in a "plot" to kill President Nicolas Maduro.
The news was announced by the General Prosecutor, Tarek William Saab, who clarified that all the suspects have confessed and revealed information about the plans.
He clarified that those arrested were accused of treason, foreign media report.
Saab said arrest warrants had been issued for 11 other people, including rights activists, journalists and soldiers in exile, for the alleged plot that also targeted Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino.
Padrino said at the same press conference that an operation launched last year to uncover details of the alleged plot was kept secret after it coincided with "talks" between Maduro and the United States that resulted in a prisoner exchange.
He blamed the plot on the "extreme right", as Maduro's government usually refers to the opposition, with the "support" of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Maduro was elected in 2018 to a second consecutive term, unrecognized by dozens of countries and facing a barrage of sanctions.
