The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski, said on Tuesday that his cabinet will resign on Thursday, January 25, to pave the way for the formation of the technical Government.

The president of the Assembly, Talat Xhaferi, who is expected to be appointed prime minister of the technical government, will also submit his resignation, which will operate for 100 days, or until the parliamentary elections, which will be held on May 8.

"The entire Government will resign on Thursday at 10:00 am. We will have enough time to complete all the formalities and on Sunday (January 28) the technical Government will be voted in," Kovacevski declared.

Before the voting of the new Government, the Assembly must elect the new Speaker, Jovan Mitreski, currently the chairman of the parliamentary group of the Social-Democratic League (LSDM).

The technical government, based on the Law on Elections, is formed 100 days before each election cycle, and has the task of organizing and conducting the parliamentary elections.
Part of this Government, in addition to the parties that currently make up the executive, the SDSM, the DUI and the Alliance for Albanians, should also be the opposition, specifically the VMRO DPMNE, to which belong the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, as well as three deputy ministers with special powers, which means that the ministers will not be able to take any decision without the signature of the deputy ministers.

However, the chairman of VMRO DPMNE, Hristijan Mickovski, said that its deputies will not vote for the technical Government, as they are against it being led by Talat Xhaferi, a member of the Democratic Union for Integration (BDI), as they accuse him of numerous legal violations during his work as Speaker of the Assembly.
DUI, on the other hand, has warned that "in case VMRO does not vote for its ministerial candidates, then DUI would not vote for VMRO candidates".

During the announcement of the resignation of the Government, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski said that "the next elections will be elections between the West and the East".

"It is about elections, where you have the political parties of the center and the center-left or the political parties of the center and the center-right. But, in our country, there will now be elections in which the political parties that favor the western orientation of the state will face each other, and the political parties that are for a clear eastern orientation of the country", Kovacevski said.

However, VMRO DPMNE has said that such statements by officials in power are made "in order to hide crime and corruption through European integrations".

Parliamentary elections in North Macedonia, on May 8, are held together with the second round of presidential elections.

The first round of presidential elections will be held on April 24./REL
