A powerful storm has hit southern Italy, causing severe flooding in the tourist town of Agrigento and the coastal area of San Leone, where roads have turned into raging rivers and cars have been swept away by the water.
Dramatic footage posted on social media shows cars floating through mud-filled streets and houses surrounded by water, while residents are isolated in their homes.
Local authorities are reporting that a woman is missing, after she was allegedly swept away by floodwaters while trying to escape her stranded vehicle. Emergency services are continuing to search the area, writes A2 CNN.
The storm came as a result of the remnants of Hurricane Gabrielle, which transformed into an extratropical storm, causing chaos in the Balearic Islands, Murcia and Valencia. Ibiza also faced massive flooding a few days ago.
Meanwhile, the UK is bracing for the impact of Storm Amy, which is expected to bring winds of up to 130km/h and heavy rain over the weekend. The Met Office has issued multiple warnings for flooding, landslides, power outages and travel cancellations.
