Music, dancing and slogans against Khamenei; the latest challenge to the regime
One of the calls to Trump

Diplomacy remains the priority, but a deal with Tehran is difficult. Washington could support Israeli strikes if talks fail…

At night, cries against the country's leadership can be heard from the windows of houses in various cities in Iran, including slogans such as "Death to the dictator" and "Down with Khamenei."

During the day, some families have chosen to turn the funeral ceremonies of their relatives into forms of protest with songs and dances.

These actions constitute an open message of opposition to the regime.

According to Shiite tradition, the 40th day after death is particularly important for commemoration. For some of the victims killed during the protests in early January, that period has recently ended. At the ceremony for Mohammad-Hossein Alikhani, 25, who was killed by security forces on January 8, family members and attendees did not limit themselves to prayers, but included music and dancing. At the memorial for Erfan Bozorgi, 22, an arm wrestling champion who died on January 2 in hospital after being shot, symbolic elements of traditional Persian wedding ceremonies were used.

Protests continue in various forms, with participants expressing their belief that the moment could be decisive for political change. In many countries around the world, solidarity rallies supported the Iranian protesters.

According to reports, around 350,000 people participated in protests in Los Angeles and Toronto, 250,000 in Munich, while in total over a million people gathered from Melbourne to London, from Paris to Tokyo.

Reza Pahlavi, the son of the deposed Shah, has asked former US President Donald Trump for a "humanitarian intervention".

On the eve of the second round of US-Iran talks, expected to take place tomorrow in Geneva, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the US president "prefers diplomacy", but stressed that "no one has managed to conclude a successful agreement with Iran".

He called the process "complicated," arguing that decision-making in Tehran is based on religious principles.

From Afghanistan, the Taliban announced that they are ready to support Iran in the event of a US attack.

Meanwhile, Iranian authorities have signaled a willingness to compromise on the nuclear issue, provided that the US discusses lifting sanctions.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reiterated the conditions for a deal: removing enriched uranium, dismantling nuclear infrastructure, limiting the range of ballistic missiles to 300 kilometers and cutting off support for groups that Israel considers terrorists. According to CBS sources, Trump told Netanyahu in a meeting in late December at Mar-a-Lago that he was willing to support Israeli strikes on Iran if negotiations failed.

Meanwhile, arrests continue in Iran. Since the protests began on December 28, over 53,000 people have been arrested. Among those recently sentenced to death is Mohammadamin Biglari, 19. According to data from human rights organizations, the number of victims of the repression reaches over 36,000.

The non-governmental organization Hrana has verified with names and evidence about 7,000 killed, among them at least 224 minors. /Adapted from Il Giornale/
