Those who know him well, are not surprised when the democratic president of the USA, Joe Biden, insults Donald Trump, but always behind closed doors.
According to "Politico", in his public appearances, the 81-year-old Biden tries to maintain an official attitude, however, whenever he is around well-known faces, he relaxes so much and speaks "freely".
To close friends and associates, the US president has called Trump a "sick bastard" who delights in the misfortunes of others.
One of the people who heard the American president's very insulting comments to the Republican billionaire, told "Politico" that he speaks offensively to the former president. For its part, the White House declined to comment on the article.
Biden's public image contradicts his words when he's behind the scenes.
However, his rants suggest a grudge he has towards the political rival he managed to sidestep in 2020 by winning the presidency and could face him again in the November election.
Biden's dislike of Trump has never been a secret, and it has intensified in recent months as the former president emerges as the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination.
Trump's staff, however, reprimanded Biden for his abusive comments.
"It's a shame that the crook Joe Biden disrespects the office of the president both publicly and privately," said Chris Lasivita, a senior Trump campaign adviser.
"But then again, it's no wonder he disrespects the 45th president in the same way he disrespects the American people with his failed policies," he added.
Biden, however, believes Trump has become more hated over time.
Biden's anger at Trump has also been fueled, according to people close to him, by revelations that the former president supported the January 6 riots while sitting in his dining room outside the Oval Office at the White House.
Moreover, his warm words to Kremlin strongman Vladimir Putin are known to have made the Democratic president take a tougher line.
Biden was especially angry when he was told that Trump refused to visit a military cemetery in the rain and mocked the sacrifices of fallen American soldiers, "Politico" points out.
