Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, warned Israel today that the war in the Middle East will escalate if the ceasefire in Gaza is not extended.
"If the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel is not extended, the war will spread to the Middle East," Abdollahian said in a statement to the Lebanese Al Mayadeen television channel.
Israel and Hamas agreed on Wednesday to continue a ceasefire for at least four days, so that during that time humanitarian aid could be sent to the Gaza Strip and at the same time they would release 50 of the hostages held by the organization Palestinians, in exchange for them 150 Palestinians, mostly women and minors, will be released from Israeli prisons.
Gaza ceasefire brings relief but little hope for lasting peace, comments the Guardian.
Many people, in Israel, the occupied territories, the Middle East and far beyond, will feel tremendous relief at the news of a ceasefire and hostage agreement.
But the temporary nature of the pause in the Israeli offensive in Gaza, combined with the number of prisoners remaining in the hands of Hamas, means that there is sadly little hope of an end to hostilities in the region.
