For a long time, Albanian criminal gangs have returned to the headlines of the Colombian media, as it is reported that they control the drug market.
The situation is getting more and more disturbing, as the Colombian police in cooperation with Interpol have launched an action, from which two Albanians were caught at the beginning of the month.
The capture of Besnik Nikolli, alias 'Niko' or 'El Gordo', as well as Lirido Ajazi or Lirido Shurtaj, known in the world of crime as 'Mario', was considered a major blow to an Albanian criminal organization.
The official report says that Niko was detained in the coastal city of Santa Marta and that his role was to link drug traffickers in Colombia and France.
From the monitoring carried out on him, it becomes clear that Nikolli has a history of more than 10 years in crime and used the port of Santa Marta to send loads of cocaine to France. In the role of coordinator, he is accused of exporting at least two tons of cocaine per year.
Meanwhile, Lirido Ajazi was captured in an area of Cali and was the organizer of the meetings with the Colombians. In his agenda, he had contacts with Colombian, Albanian, French and Dominican cartels.
This man used various clandestine ports in the Caribbean to ship cocaine to several European countries. The police say that Ajazi arrived in Colombia after being wanted by the police of several European countries for various crimes, including drug trafficking.
" Due to the actions of the European authorities against this person, he decided to move to Colombia to expand his criminal activities and make alliances with the Colombian cartels to send narcotics from the international airports of the main cities of Colombia to the Netherlands , Germany, Belgium, Spain and France, including Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris. He transported the cocaine using double suitcases ," the police report said.
The Colombian authorities are worried about this situation which could lead to a confrontation between the cocaine trafficking groups to Europe.
Among those arrested is the most wanted man in Europe, according to the Colombian police, as well as two Albanian citizens, a Pole and a Spaniard. Raul Moreno was the most wanted in Europe and was arrested on September 7, 2023 in Bogota, Colombia.
Moreno was found thanks to information sent by the Spanish National Guard and Interpol, which in cooperation with the Colombian authorities was able to conduct an operation to capture him.
He is believed to have arrived in Colombia in 2020 after fleeing from Spain, where he was wanted and accused of drug trafficking, following the seizure of a large shipment of cocaine.
Bogota would become his main hideout, although he kept a low profile to avoid attracting the attention of the authorities. But then he started to be seen very often in public with suspicious people, which led to his monitoring by the local police.
Police said the arrested man was organizing a large shipment of narcotics from Colombia to the Ports of Valencia in Spain, disguised as fruit and vegetables.
