Iranian military forces claim to have carried out a drone attack on a base housing US troops in Erbil, northern Iraq. The news was reported by Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency, which said the strike caused "significant damage."
According to reports, the target of the attack was an area near Erbil International Airport, where US forces of the international coalition are also located. Local authorities and other sources did not immediately confirm the extent of the damage or whether there were any casualties.
The attacks on American positions in Iraq have increased in the context of the escalation of the broader conflict in the Middle East between Iran, Israel and the United States, which in recent days has spread to several countries in the region.
Meanwhile, international media reports also speak of explosions in Doha, the capital of Qatar. An Associated Press journalist reported that a loud explosion was heard in the city, followed by air defense interventions in the sky.
Qatari officials have not yet provided full details of the incident, but the country has been one of the targets of missile and drone attacks during the recent escalation of the conflict in the region.
