The United States and Israel have continued bombing targets in Iran, where according to data reported by international media, at least 1,045 people have been killed since Saturday.
Iranian authorities have responded with drone and missile attacks on Israel and several Gulf countries, also causing casualties and material damage. The recent clashes have significantly increased tensions in the Middle East and fears of a further expansion of the conflict in the region.
Meanwhile, opinions in the United States remain divided over military operations against Iran. According to a recent poll, only one in four Americans approves of the decision to carry out the strikes.
Support is highest among voters of President Donald Trump's Republican Party, with 55 percent in favor of the attacks, 13 percent opposed and 32 percent saying they are undecided.
On the other hand, 74 percent of Democrats oppose military intervention against Iran, while only 7 percent support it and 19 percent remain undecided.
How big is Iran?
Iran is the 17th largest country in the world by area, after Sudan and Libya. It covers an area of about 1.65 million square kilometers.
By comparison, Iran's territory is about one-sixth the size of the United States, about one-fifth that of Australia, and roughly half that of India. Iran is also four times larger than Iraq and about 80 times larger than Israel.
The country is located in Western Asia and shares land borders with seven countries: Iraq, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Armenia, with the longest border being with Iraq.
When compared to the United States, Iran is about the same size as the state of Alaska and more than twice the size of Texas. To reach the area of Iran, you would have to combine the territories of Texas, California, Montana, and Illinois.
In a geographical comparison, if the map of Iran were placed over the east coast of the US, it would cover almost the entire area from Maine to Florida.
