The situation caused by bad weather in Norway as a result of strong winds and heavy rain resembles that of an Apocalypse.
A dam in southern Norway partially collapsed on Wednesday after days of heavy rain caused landslides and floods in mountainous regions and forced communities to flee their homes.
Authorities initially considered blowing up part of the dam that feeds a hydroelectric plant to avoid flooding residential villages, but the idea was scrapped after water seeped through the structure.
"We hope that we will have a gradual leveling of the water, reaching the right level ," said Fredrik Thomson, a police spokesman.
The power plant on the Glama, Norway's longest and most voluminous river, was below the correct water level and out of order.
But for hours, water pooled behind the dam. Then, a parking lot near the power station was flooded, and water soon began to flow through a crack in the dam's structure. The water bisected a two-lane road and fences that spanned the top of the dam.
