United States President Donald Trump has praised the upcoming visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to the US, while simultaneously criticizing the United Kingdom for its lack of engagement in the conflict with Iran and efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on the Truth Social network, Trump described the visit as an important event, noting that it coincides with the 250th anniversary of the United States. He said he was looking forward to meeting King Charles, for whom he said he has great respect.
"This important moment will be even more special this year... I look forward to spending time with the King," Trump wrote, adding that the visit will be "great."
According to the official announcement, the state visit will take place from April 27 to 30 and will include an official banquet at the White House on April 28. Buckingham Palace confirmed the organization of this visit earlier in the day.
However, in another tweet that same day, Trump sharply criticized the United Kingdom for refusing to get involved in actions against Iran. He stated that London should show “belated courage” and contribute to securing energy supply routes through the Strait of Hormuz.
The US president also warned that the US may no longer provide unconditional support to allies that, according to him, do not contribute equally to security issues.
