US Defense Secretary Pete Hegset will hold an emergency meeting with hundreds of generals and admirals on September 30 at a Marine Corps base in Virginia.
The reasons for the meeting have not been disclosed, causing panic among the military command, The Washington Post reports.
According to the media, there was no known case where the head of the Pentagon had ordered such a meeting of generals and admirals.
Some military personnel expressed concerns about the security implications of the meeting.
WP notes that the order came after Hegset announced major changes within the Pentagon, including a 20% reduction in the number of generals.
