The US president has said he has no intention of publicly revealing his next moves regarding Russia, saying he wants to give Moscow a "little surprise". Trump reiterated that he is "unhappy" with Russian President Vladimir Putin's actions regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
Moscow has carried out one of its largest-ever missile and drone attacks against several Ukrainian cities overnight, following Donald Trump's criticism of his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
Russia launched a record 728 drones against several Ukrainian cities overnight, the Ukrainian air force said on Wednesday.
Defense systems destroyed 718 drones and seven cruise missiles, the air force posted on Telegram, in what appears to be one of Moscow's largest attacks on Ukraine in Russia's overall war.
Dozens of Russian attack drones and ballistic missiles targeted regions in far western Ukraine, with drones reported over the cities of Lutsk, Lviv, Khmelnytskyi and Ternopil.
The western city of Lutsk was hit hard in the attack, according to local media, with explosions heard in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Volyn Oblast Governor Ivan Rudnytskyi said that "almost everything" was directed from Lutsk, which faced 50 drones and five missiles in its airspace overnight.
In Kiev, Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that Russian drones were attacking the city center and air defenses were firing at targets.
At least one person was injured in the town of Brovary in the greater Kiev area, according to the regional military administration.
US President Donald Trump has said he has no intention of publicly revealing his next moves regarding Russia, saying he wants to give Moscow a "little surprise".
Trump reiterated that he is "displeased" with Russian President Vladimir Putin's actions regarding the conflict in Ukraine. Commenting on the possibility of Congress passing the Senate bill for new sanctions against Russia, Trump said that it would depend on his decision.
At a cabinet meeting, answering questions from reporters, the US president confirmed that he would send defensive weapons to Ukraine. When asked who ordered the halt to the arms shipments to Ukraine last week, Trump replied ironically: "I don't know, you tell me."
Putin is not treating people right, he is killing too many, Trump now explained. That is why the US is sending some defensive weapons to Ukraine, he had approved this.
On Monday, the US Department of Defense announced that it was sending additional defensive weapons to Ukraine at Trump's behest. He also announced the introduction of 10 percent tariffs on all BRICS countries, including Russia. "BRICS was founded to hurt us, to devalue our dollar. That's fine, if they want to play that game, so do I, and that's why I'm putting a 10 percent tariff on all BRICS members," Trump said.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expects arms shipments from the US immediately after new talks with US representatives.
"This mainly concerns air defense and all other elements of deliveries from America," the head of state said in his daily video message.
