Turkish Minister Hakan Fidan's statements on Israel and Cyprus provoke a harsh reaction from Athens...

A new clash has been recorded between Turkey and Greece, following statements by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who openly criticized regional cooperation involving Greece, Cyprus and Israel.

Speaking about the situation in the Middle East and regional cooperation structures, Fidan said that these initiatives do not contribute to stability. " These increase tensions instead of reducing them. Their cooperation does not bring more trust, but more distrust. It brings more problems and war ," he said.

He also added criticism of Israel's role in the region, stating: " We see that Israel may try to characterize Turkey as the new adversary, after Iran, as it cannot survive without an enemy ."

Along the same lines, the Turkish minister called for a broader security architecture in the region, based on mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Following these statements, Athens' reaction was immediate and strong. The Greek Foreign Ministry emphasized its role in maintaining stability and rejected Ankara's accusations.

" Greece, as a member state of the European Union and NATO and an elected member of the United Nations Security Council, has proven that it works continuously and with dedication for stability, good neighborly relations and peace, " the Foreign Ministry said.

Athens further clarified the nature of regional cooperation: " Both the bilateral cooperation between Greece and Israel, and the trilateral cooperation between Greece, the Republic of Cyprus and Israel [...] have peaceful purposes and are not directed against third parties ."

In conclusion, the Greek Foreign Ministry stressed its independence in decision-making and rejected any external interference.
Greece shapes its foreign policy independently, does not accept instructions and does not owe anyone explanations. Alarmist rhetoric and attempts to distort reality do not help, especially in this period of regional instability ,” the statement stressed.
