Clashes over Ukraine's budget and funding in US Congress, Zelensky: Nothing

A day after the US Congress approved an emergency funding bill for the US federal government, but without including new aid for Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that nothing will weaken Ukraine's determination to win the war against Russia.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov emphasized that in a telephone conversation he had with his American counterpart Lloyd Austin, he received assurances that Kiev will receive further military assistance from Washington.

"Secretary Austin has assured me that US support for Ukraine will continue and that Ukrainian soldiers will continue to have strong support on the battlefield ," Umerov told X.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko also stressed that the Ukrainian government is working with its American partners to ensure that the new decision on the US budget, which will be made in the next 45 days, will include new funds to help Ukraine.

He sought to reassure Ukrainians of future US support, noting that previously approved funds would not be affected.

The US has helped Kiev more than anyone else, releasing about $110 billion in civilian and military aid since February 2022. Zelensky, in a videotaped speech on the occasion of Defender's Day, did not directly refer to yesterday's vote in Congress, but reiterated his determination to fight to victory.

As he said, Ukraine will stop resisting only the day it wins. "As we get closer to victory, every day we say: 'We will fight as long as it takes.'

On the other hand, US President Joe Biden vowed today that Washington will not abandon Ukraine, stressing that Republicans have pledged to approve additional aid to Ukraine in a separate vote.
