President Donald Trump only briefly touched on the issue of the war in Ukraine during his State of the Union address to the US Congress.
In his address to lawmakers, Trump emphasized that his administration has managed to close eight conflicts since taking office, while adding that work is currently underway to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine, which he described as a conflict with a high human cost.
"We are working hard to end the ninth war, the killings and massacres between Russia and Ukraine, where 25,000 soldiers die every month. Think about it, 25,000 soldiers die every month. A war that would never have happened if I were president, would never have happened," Trump said.
Trump used the moment to emphasize his stance that the conflict would not have erupted if he had been in office earlier. However, during the speech he did not provide details on a concrete strategy aimed at ending the war.
