President-elect Trump named Person of the Year by 'Time' magazine

Time magazine announced President-elect Donald Trump as its person of the year.

The news was announced by the magazine's editor-in-chief Sam Jacobs on NBC television. He added that Mr Trump was someone who "for better or worse, had the biggest impact on the news in 2024".

"He is someone who made a historic comeback, who reshaped the American presidency and who is reshaping American politics," Mr. Jacobs said.

"It's hard to argue against the fact that the person moving into the Oval Office is the most influential person in the news," he said.

Mr. Jacobs added that "there is always a heated debate" in the magazine about who is the person who should be honored, but according to him the fact should be accepted that "this year's decision was easier than previous years".

In an interview with the magazine published on Thursday, Mr. Trump spoke about his recent campaign and victory in the election.

"I called it '72 days of unbridled momentum,'" Mr Trump said. "We hit the heart of the problem, the country was angry," he said.

Mr Trump is expected to head to Wall Street to mark the start of trading on the stock market today.

The cover of Time magazine with his photo was projected onto a stock market wall, surrounded by American flags.

Mr Trump was also named the magazine's Person of the Year in 2016, when he was first elected to the White House.

Along with his name, among the people considered for the person of the year title were Vice President Kamala Harris, billionaire Elon Musk, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Princess of Wales, Kate.

Mr Trump has long been an intriguing figure on the cover of Time magazine, where he first appeared in 1989.
