"Fake evidence"/ British Secret Service paranoid Starmer, PM orders

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has ordered an investigation into the British Secret Service, following revelations that the agency gave false evidence in three separate court cases.

The BBC writes that the case concerns a secret informant, known as "X", who allegedly had relations with far-right circles and abused his partner.

MI5 claimed to follow a "Neither Confirm, Nor Deny" policy, neither confirming nor denying the agent's status.

However, it was revealed that a senior official at the agency had admitted to a journalist that "X" was an agent, a fact that contradicts statements given in court.

The Supreme Court ruled that the two investigations, one internal and the other independent, had serious flaws and did not provide a full explanation.

It was therefore decided to conduct a new, independent investigation under the supervision of the Commissioner of Investigative Powers. MI5 and the Attorney General of the state, who had testified in court, admitted their mistakes and apologized, while the possibility of criminal liability for officers of the service remains open, depending on the findings of the new procedure.

The case has raised serious questions about the reliability of British security services.
