Another old ally of Russia has changed direction, leaving Moscow and moving closer to the West. This happened due to the fact that Putin is unable to keep his promise to prevent conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the control of the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh.
In light of these developments, Armenia has announced that it will sign the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which allows Putin to be arrested on war crimes charges.
In theory, this meant that the Russian president could be arrested if he entered Armenia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also reacted to this decision, describing the move as "extremely hostile" to Moscow.
“Armenia knows very well that we are not a party to the [Rome Statute], and Armenia is fully aware of the difficult decision of the International Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin taken on the basis of this statute. We know that Yerevan is well aware of this. This is not something we approve of ," he said.
Asked if Putin was planning any trips to Armenia in the near future, Peskov replied: "No."
