Investigations against Joe Biden, hearings begin in Congress for the dismissal

The Oversight and Accountability Committee of the House of Representatives is holding its first session today, as part of an investigation aimed at starting the impeachment proceedings against President Joe Biden.

In a statement by the Chairman of the Committee, Republican Legislator Jim Comer, before the beginning of the session, it was said that it would focus on constitutional and legal issues.

Likewise, Mr. Comer said that what he called "evidence discovered to date will be presented and legal and financial experts will be heard regarding the possible violations of the Biden family."

President Biden has rejected the accusations of the Republicans. The press secretary of the White House, Karine Jean-Pierre, told reporters that the investigations being carried out by the Republicans of the House of Representatives are baseless.

"They have no evidence and this is a political game," said Ms. Jean-Pierre.

The Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, launched this month the investigations that could lead to impeachment charges against the president. The investigation has focused on the business dealings abroad of the president's son, Hunter Biden.

Republicans claim that while Mr. Biden was vice president (during the Obama administration), his son Hunter Biden used the family name to benefit his businesses with foreign clients. Republicans also say that the president himself has benefited from his son's businesses./ VOA
