With Washington negotiating a share of Ukraine's rare earths, Russian President Vladimir Putin appears to be opening up the discussion about his battle for strategically important minerals.
Putin, in discussions with Russian officials on Monday, referred to the importance of rare earth production, while announcing that a program aimed at developing the industry of these minerals is already underway.
This program covers everything from mining to land development and the production of high-tech products.
He spoke about important strategic reserves that are crucial for the country's competitiveness and economic development, as stated in the relevant Kremlin announcement.
At the same time, on the "table" is the agreement to provide Russian aluminum worth two million dollars, while it appears to be committed to mutual arms reduction.
Regarding the agreement that is "in the works" between the US and Ukraine, the Kremlin made it clear that this is not an issue that concerns Moscow.
