The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution condemning Russian aggression in Ukraine, prepared by European Union countries and Ukraine itself.
93 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while 18 countries voted against, including the United States, which voted along with Russia and Israel.
Meanwhile, the resolution had 65 abstentions.
Perhaps this vote or Albania's position at the UN, aligning itself with EU countries, also explains the phone call a few days ago between Ukrainian President Zelensky and Prime Minister Rama. Zelensky himself announced Albania's support, while the conversation with Rama was a follow-up to the contacts that the Ukrainian President has had with several European leaders.

American diplomacy, which had presented its resolution by equalizing the positions of Russia and Ukraine in the conflict and not demanding the withdrawal of Russian positions from Ukrainian territory, failed to adopt this position.
France proposed three amendments to the US position, receiving widespread applause in the hall, along with Ukraine and the EU representative.
The first draft of the resolution did not call Russia the aggressor in the war and did not recognize the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
However, several amendments were approved before the vote to strengthen the language against Russia and to reaffirm Ukraine's territorial integrity.
The amended resolution, drafted by the US, was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.
The United States faced opposition from its European allies later Monday at the United Nations Security Council, where it is expected to present the same resolution, which does not directly accuse Russia of the war.
One of the amendments added a paragraph reaffirming the commitment to “the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, including its territorial waters.”
Another amendment changed the language from “the tragic loss of life during the Russia-Ukraine conflict” to “the complete occupation of Ukraine by the Russian Federation.”
These developments in the General Assembly and Security Council come on the anniversary of Russia's war on Ukraine. It comes days after a high-level meeting between the United States and Russia, without Ukraine present, to discuss a process to end the war.
Also, the US special envoy for Ukraine traveled separately to Kiev after the meeting.
