Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his support for the Venezuelan government in a phone call with President Nicolas Maduro, as tensions between the Venezuelan leader and the United States administration, under former President Donald Trump, have increased.
According to a Kremlin statement, Putin reaffirmed support for Maduro's policies related to defending national interests and sovereignty in the face of growing external pressure, sending a clear message that Moscow stands by Caracas in the face of challenges coming from Washington.
For her part, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt was asked about Trump's reaction to the call and said: " I don't think that would bother the president at all ."
Last month, Russia and Venezuela signed an agreement that strengthens cooperation in sectors such as security, energy, and the economy, further deepening strategic ties between the two countries and indirectly challenging US pressure.
