From Utah to 1933 Berlin: Saviano sees 'Trump's Reichstag' in the assassination of Kirk...
The assassination of Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative, Donald Trump supporter and prominent figure in the MAGA movement, continues to generate strong reactions in public opinion and social networks. Kirk was executed with a bullet in the neck while holding an open debate with students at a university in Utah, an event that shocked not only the United States but also international opinion, as dramatic images of the assassination spread around the world.
Among the many comments, fierce controversy has erupted over Italian writer Roberto Saviano, who made a comparison on the social network X that was considered excessive and offensive by many users. Saviano wrote that “ Kirk’s assassination could become for Trump what the Reichstag fire of 1933 was for Hitler: not just the end of a life, but the spark for a radical transformation of the political and social balance .”
He explained that Hitler used the burning of the German parliament as an excuse to declare a state of emergency, suspend basic rights and suppress political opponents. According to Saviano, there is a risk that Trump will exploit the shock and outrage caused by the assassination to consolidate his power and pursue an authoritarian agenda.
At the end of his post, the author of "Gomorrah" described Trump as " weak, politically unstable and therefore very dangerous ", while for Kirk he emphasized that " he was a provocateur who provoked through dialogue. But words are words and violence is violence: there are no murders that defend ideas. Bloodshed always weakens democracy. "
Reactions on the network were not long in coming. Some users supported Saviano's analysis, but many others attacked him harshly. One wrote: " Saviano, I know that for you everything is Hitler... but using the murder of Charlie Kirk to make a small story is simply disgusting ." Another strong reaction was: " A 31-year-old guy is killed for his political ideas and the first thing that comes to mind is to instrumentalize the news for your propaganda. Shame on you. "
Some even openly accused the leftist camp of inciting violence: " You have this assassination on your conscience. You raise your voices, you feed hatred towards your political opponent, and now you have produced violence. You are the moral mandates ."
The event, which already has serious consequences in American politics, has also ignited a new polemic front in Europe, showing that the murder of Charlie Kirk is becoming not only a national issue, but also a reference point in the global debate on political violence and its instrumentalization. /Pamphlet
