Greek authorities have also announced that the frigates "Kimon" and "Psara" will be sent to Cyprus. The latter will be equipped with the "Kentavros" system, according to the decision of the Governmental Council for Foreign Policy and Defense (KYSEA), as announced by Defense Minister Nikos Dendias.
The Greek minister added that for better coordination of actions between Athens and Nicosia, he and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, General Dimitrios Choupis, will travel to Cyprus.
The deployment of Greek air and naval assets comes at a time of high tension in the region, while authorities in Cyprus have increased their level of alert following recent incidents related to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East.
