The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has reacted after warnings from Western generals that Russia intends to attack NATO countries after Ukraine. Lavrov called these claims untrue and absurd.
"They say that if Russia wins and defends its interests in this war, then the Baltic countries, Sweden and Finland will be next, but this is absurd ," Lavrov said, adding that this hypothesis was also supported by American President Joe Biden.
"The absurdity of such statements is clear to everyone, to anyone who knows history and understands the goals we have openly set for ourselves," said the Russian minister.
Among those objectives, Lavrov said, is combating Western efforts to transform the modern territories on which Russians and other peoples of Russia have lived for centuries into a springboard from which NATO, led by the United States, would threaten security of the Russian Federation.
