Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev declared that the country's armed forces have been placed on full combat readiness, following a drone attack that hit Nakhchivan International Airport.
During a Security Council meeting, Aliyev described the incident as an "act of terror" committed by Iran against Azerbaijani territory.
"Today, Iran committed an act of terror against the territory and state of Azerbaijan. The Iranian state used unmanned aerial vehicles to strike the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic," he declared.
The Azerbaijani president demanded that the Iranian authorities provide an official explanation, apologize, and that those responsible for this incident be held criminally accountable.
Aliyev also stressed that his country is ready to respond to any threat.
"The people of Azerbaijan must be sure that any hostile force will be confronted with our 'Iron Fist,'" he said.
Iran, on the other hand, has denied involvement in the incident in Nakhchivan. According to reports, drones hit the airport area and one of them fell near a school in the village of Shakarabad, injuring two people.
