Four days after the summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the CIA's most experienced officer for Russia, who had worked day and night with the president's team to prepare for the meeting, was suddenly fired.

The Washington Post reported this without revealing the officer's name to protect his safety.

Within minutes, her 29-year career in public service was essentially over, as she awaited a promotion to Europe approved by CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

The firing would be part of Tulsi Gabbard and Trump's plan to fire all national security professionals who have been involved in "politicizing intelligence to advance personal, biased or one-sided agendas," as Gabbard pointed out in X on August 19, announcing the revocation of the security clearances of 37 people by order of the president.

Meanwhile, the United States has expressed its readiness to provide critical security support to Ukraine after a peace agreement with Russia, including advanced intelligence, surveillance and battlefield control tools, as well as to participate in a European-led air defense shield with a no-fly zone.

The Financial Times reports that the Western capitals’ plan would include a demilitarized zone, possibly patrolled by neutral peacekeepers from a third country, agreed upon by Kiev and Moscow. Beyond it, a much stronger border, protected by Ukrainian troops armed and trained by NATO. Further inland, as a third line of defense, a European-led deterrent force.

According to a Financial Times report citing American and Ukrainian sources, the US may participate in a joint plan with European countries to guarantee Ukraine's defense against future aggression.

Washington would be ready to contribute “strategic enablers,” including intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, command and control, and air defense assets, to support any European-led deployment on the ground. American assistance would be crucial for monitoring the ceasefire and the operation of Western forces on the ground.

Donald Trump told European leaders last week that America would be part of "coordinating" security guarantees for post-war Ukraine, something Kiev has sought to deter a future attack by Russia after a possible peace deal.
