US does not recognize Delcy Rodríguez as interim President of Venezuela:
Celebrations in Venezuela

Donald Trump's administration does not consider the appointment of the Vice President of Venezuela as interim head of state legitimate, following the arrest of Nicolas Maduro by US forces.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated today that Interim President Delcy Rodríguez is not the "legitimate president of Venezuela" and the United States does not consider the current regime legitimate.

In one of his television interviews, Rubio explained that he understands that there are people in Venezuela today "who can actually bring about change." But he clarified that this is different from recognizing the legitimacy of the Venezuelan government, which will come from a period of transition and an election.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday that several US agencies, including the State Department, the Pentagon and the Department of Justice (DOJ), will be involved in running Venezuela for the time being.

"This is a team effort by the entire national security apparatus of our country. But he is implementing this policy. And the goal of the policy is to see changes in Venezuela that are beneficial to the United States first and foremost," Rubio told host Kristen Welker on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance also spoke about oil. "I see a lot of criticism about oil. About 20 years ago, Venezuela expropriated American oil properties and used them until recently to enrich itself and to finance drug trafficking activities. I understand the anxiety about using military force, but should we allow a communist to steal our assets in our hemisphere without doing anything? Great powers don't do that," Vance said, also responding, in X, to criticism from those who claim that the operation in Venezuela has nothing to do with drugs, because the fentanyl comes from somewhere else.

Fentanyl "is not the only drug in the world, and there is fentanyl that comes from Venezuela. Cocaine is the main drug trafficked" from the country, Vance stressed.
