An operation by Mexican Navy special forces has resulted in the arrest of Audias Flores Silva, known as “El Jardinero,” one of the most important figures in the Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) cartel. The operation took place in the state of Nayarit, north of Guadalajara, and was confirmed by the Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch.
According to authorities, Flores Silva was considered an important regional commander of the cartel, with strong influence in the Pacific coastal areas. He was also mentioned as one of the potential candidates to succeed the current leader of the CJNG, Nemesio Oseguera, known as “El Mencho.”
An arrest warrant had been issued for him in Mexico, while US authorities had requested his extradition, offering a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to his capture.
According to official sources, the arrest came after a well-coordinated operation by the Navy Secretariat, with the participation of elite units.
Flores Silva faces serious charges in the United States, including conspiracy to traffic in international drugs, particularly cocaine and heroin, as well as weapons-related offenses. He was also on the U.S. Treasury Department's list of international drug traffickers.
This is not his first run-in with the law. He previously served a five-year sentence for drug trafficking before returning to Mexico and, according to authorities, resuming his criminal activities.
The Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel, founded in 2009, is considered among the most powerful and violent drug trafficking organizations in Mexico.
