US imposes blockade, but ships don't stop; what's happening in Hormuz?

The latest data on maritime traffic shows that, since the imposition of the US blockade on Monday, at least 15 ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important energy corridors in the world.

According to an analysis by BBC Verify, nine of these ships had ties to Iran, while some of them had previously stopped at Iranian ports.

On the other hand, the US Central Command (Centcom) has clarified that the blockade only applies to ships entering or leaving Iranian ports, while those passing through to other ports are not obstructed.

In an official update, Centcom stated that during the first 36 hours of the operation, no ships passed in violation of orders, while six vessels were forced to turn back.

However, these claims have not been fully verified by independent sources. Tracking data shows that at least one ship changed course during the voyage.

It is about the tanker "Rich Starry", which had departed from the United Arab Emirates eastward through the strait, but then turned back and re-entered the Persian Gulf.

Meanwhile, two Iranian-flagged ships have been observed leaving the area near the Chabahar port, in southern Iran, after the blockade was lifted.

The situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains tense, while ship movements are being closely monitored in one of the most strategic points of global energy transport.
