UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said his country will not be drawn into a conflict with Iran, despite growing pressure to pursue a tougher approach.
His statements come just hours after former US President Donald Trump suggested in an interview that the trade agreement between Britain and the US could be renegotiated.
During a hearing in Parliament, Starmer acknowledged that he is facing considerable political pressure to change course, but stressed that his position remains unchanged.
"I will not change my mind. I will not bow down. It is not in our national interest to get involved in this war and we will not do it. I know where I stand," he said.
The head of the British government reiterated that London's policy remains focused on avoiding involvement in the conflict, considering the situation as an issue that does not directly concern the country's interests.
"This is not our conflict," Starmer stressed, reaffirming the government's commitment not to intervene militarily.
