Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) announced today that it prevented a bomb attack in Yekaterinburg and arrested four young men suspected of planning the serious event.
The FSB said it had seized parts for an improvised explosive device and that investigators in the Sverdlovsk region had launched a criminal investigation, according to Russian news agencies.
The arrested are Russian citizens.
The four teenagers are Russian nationals born in 2007 and 2008, according to the FSB, which did not name them. Russia's Federal Security Service said the detainees "shared the ideas of a terrorist organization banned in Russia and planned to carry out a terrorist act using an improvised explosive device" in crowded areas of Yekaterinburg.
He added that two of the arrested were involved in an arson attack on an Interior Ministry vehicle. The Interfax news agency reported that the arson took place on December 22, 2024.
