US President Donald Trump has shared details from his phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin today, following his White House summit with Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders.
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, the US president said that the US is no longer spending money on Ukraine.
"We're not spending any more money on Ukraine. We deal with NATO, not Ukraine ," said Donald Trump, adding that no specific security guarantees for Kiev have been discussed, but the US would be available to help.
Trump also accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling him: "A brilliant salesman: every time he left the White House, he took millions of dollars with him."
Donald Trump also said that if he had been president, the war in Ukraine "would never have happened."
He stressed that Putin does not want to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. "Putin does not want to meet with Zelensky because he does not like him," Trump declared.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he does not see any concessions from Moscow in the peace talks.
"As for Russia's concessions, I don't know anything about them. I don't think that what the Russian side said, namely that they are ready to stop the invasion of Ukraine, are concessions. I don't think that the fact that they are offering to withdraw from territories that Russia does not control is a concession. Because it was the United States that proposed, I remember, a ceasefire on March 7. We supported it," he explained.
