Powerful explosion in a court in Kiev, one dead and several injured

An explosion with explosives took place this afternoon in a court in Kiev, where one person was killed and several others were injured. 

According to Ukrainian media, the person responsible for the attack is a defendant named Ihor Humenyuk, a far-right militant accused of carrying out a terrorist act in 2015.

The person suspected of causing the explosions inside Shevchenko Court has been identified as the person who died in the explosion.  

According to what Ukrainian authorities say, the defendant blew himself up in one of the court's bathrooms. The Minister of the Interior, Ihor Klymenko, confirmed on Telegram that the author died on the spot and, according to initial information, blew himself up. The minister added that two soldiers were injured. The General Prosecutor's Office has announced that a preliminary investigation has been launched into the incident.

Ihor Humenyuk, was transferred to court on charges of carrying out a 2015 terrorist attack near the Parliament in Kyiv on 31 August 2015. Humenyuk had served in a volunteer battalion between 2014 and 2015 and was a member of the radical right-wing Svoboda party.
