Why did Israel's narrative about responsibility for the attack on the

At least 500 people have been brutally killed by bombs that hit al-Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza yesterday afternoon, in the worst attack since Israel's war against the Hamas group began on October 7, but which unfortunately also claimed the lives of at least 2000 innocent people in Gaza.

Amid the murderous fog of war, reactions are confusing, with denials of responsibility from both sides, against a backdrop of rival narratives and widespread online disinformation, writes Qatar's Al Jazeera network.

But disclaimers and deletions of social media posts have cast doubt on the Israeli version of events.

Many believe Israel's claim that a rocket accidentally fired by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group caused the blast, but that was not their first version of events.

In the initial posts on the X network by the spokesman of the Israeli president Hananya Naftali, the main doubts are raised. He wrote shortly after the attack around 19:00: "The Israeli air force hit a terrorist base of Hamas inside a hospital in Gaza," but the post was deleted after a few minutes.

At 10.58pm local time, Naftali apologized on the X network for posting a "Reuters news" that, according to him, "falsely claimed that Israel had hit a hospital in Gaza".

He wrote: "The Israeli army does not bomb hospitals, I believed that Israel had hit a Hamas base in Gaza."

Earlier at 9:04 p.m., the Israeli army announced that a militant rocket had exploded outside its destination: " From the analysis of the army's systems, it is known that from a series of rockets launched towards Israel, one had passed near the hospital that was hit ".

But as it was learned later, the post had been corrected as an earlier version included video evidence, writes Al Jaseera.

Aric Toler, a reporter for The New York Times network, dismissed the authenticity of the footage as the post signaled that it had been edited 40 minutes after the explosion.

On the night of the explosion, the World Health Organization stated that a total of 51 military strikes had been carried out against health facilities in Gaza since the start of the conflict on October 7. In them, 15 health workers were killed and 27 were injured.

The Israeli military itself had issued evacuation orders for 22 hospitals treating about 2,000 patients in the Gaza Strip as it intensified its bombing campaign. A health official in Gaza told Al Jazeera that Israel had fired two artillery shells as a warning at al-Ahli Arab hospital a few days before the explosion that destroyed the people inside.

"Even the hospital is no longer a safe place... " said Dr Richard Peeperkorn, WHO representative for the West Bank and Gaza.

While Netanyahu's government has presented its evidence of denial of the strike showing that the craters of the army bombs are much deeper than those caused in the hospital by the murderous drama. In another post, Netanyahu wrote that " barbaric terrorists attacked the hospital in Gaza, not the Israeli army "./ Aljazeera .
