Romanian MEP Cristian Vasile Terhes has once again brought up accusations against European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen regarding the Pfizer vaccine issue.
During his speech in the European Parliament, Cristian Vasile Terhes accused Von der Leyen of a marked lack of transparency and questioned the way contracts with pharmaceutical companies were made public, implying that essential information was hidden.
He added that the contract was abusive, as Von der Lyene had spent billions of dollars to purchase 4.6 billion vaccines, which corresponds to 10 doses per person.

“ Dear colleagues, Ursula von der Leyen must immediately and unconditionally resign from her position as President of the European Commission, because her actions are currently under criminal investigation by the European Public Prosecutor's Office. The EPPO announced just a few days ago that it is investigating the way contracts were signed between the European Commission and vaccine manufacturers. And this was also highlighted by the Court of Auditors in a report published a few days ago, and I quote: The Commission has signed, by November 2021, contracts worth 71 billion euros on behalf of Member States to purchase up to 4.6 billion doses of vaccines against COVID-19.
This means that 10 doses of vaccines were purchased for every EU citizen, based on contracts that were never made public. This is how the contract she signed with these pharmaceutical companies was made public. How is this possible in a European Union that claims to be transparent in how it uses citizens' money? Therefore, I am again demanding and calling for her immediate and unconditional resignation. Thank you,” he said, among other things.
Recall that Ursula von der Leyen's involvement in "Pfizergate" is related to personal negotiations she conducted in early 2021, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, to secure a major vaccine contract with Pfizer. As President of the European Commission, von der Leyen publicly admitted that she had exchanged text messages (SMS) and phone calls with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla for an entire month.
The scandal, known as Pfizergate, erupted when it was revealed that von der Leyen had used informal channels (personal phone) to negotiate directly with Bourla, partially bypassing standard transparent procurement procedures. When journalists from the New York Times requested access to these messages under EU transparency rules, the European Commission refused, claiming that the messages “no longer existed”, had not been archived or were “short” and lacking in substantial content.
