Russia's new Defense Minister, Andrei Belousov, is at the center of a scandal, after he is suspected of misusing military resources for personal purposes.
Specifically, the 66-year-old official is accused of transporting his girlfriend, 23-year-old influencer Maria Salaeva, on an Ilyushin-76 military plane to various destinations within Russia.
The allegations are based on social media posts by Shalaeva herself, in which she appears to be boarding a military plane for a “weekend getaway” to Rostov-on-Don, a key city as it is home to the headquarters of the Russian armed forces. The posts, which have now been deleted, also include photos from inside the plane, while one of the videos shows a grey-haired man who, according to the independent news agency Nexta, could be Belousov himself.
The scandal has caused concern and strong reactions, with Russian military sources speaking of a “massive security breach.” According to information, the secret services are suspected of having visited Salaeva’s father at his workplace, possibly as part of an investigation related to this matter.
Salaeva herself announced, among other things, that she had taken her three-year-old son, Tim, with her on the trip, which reinforced rumors that the child could be the son of the senior military officer.

"At the age of three, he has already flown in a military plane," she wrote characteristically. "Tim sat in the cockpit. He felt very comfortable and watched cartoons throughout the flight."
The 23-year-old continued to post details of her luxurious travels, stating that in Rostov they were greeted by a “very expensive foreign car,” which some users commented could be a Maybach. Regarding her partner, she wrote that “he is a Kremlin man” and that “his level of trustworthiness is 200%,” but avoided revealing his identity.
In another post, she mentioned that this man called her "yebobo," which means "crazy," and jokingly suggested that he recruit her into the military, but added that she would be immediately discharged from military service due to mental instability.
Maria makes it clear that her partner is “not a military man, nor a member of the FSB,” but she knows him very well. “I know who he is,” she wrote, “but I’m not allowed to say.”
Independent media outlet Nexta, based in Warsaw, reports that Salaeva "hints in private posts that her lover is Belousov himself."

While there is no official confirmation of their relationship, the information that has been made public raises serious questions about the possible involvement of Russia's new defense minister.
There has been no official statement from the Russian Defense Ministry or the Kremlin, but the issue is at the center of public outrage. Many consider the use of state resources for personal pleasure, especially at such a critical time for the country's security - a scandal with political and institutional consequences.
