Flood fears return in Texas and Oklahoma, vulnerable areas on alert for heavy

Texas and surrounding areas are bracing for another wave of flooding as residents still deal with the aftermath of last week's devastating floods. According to the National Weather Service, a Level 2 out of 4 threat for excessive rainfall has been issued for Saturday and Sunday, including eastern New Mexico, western and northern Texas, and much of Oklahoma.

Among the most at-risk areas is Ruidoso, New Mexico, which was hit hard by deadly and record-breaking flooding earlier this week. The storms are expected to bring significant rainfall in a short period of time, aided by high levels of moisture from the Gulf and slow-moving weather systems. This situation significantly increases the risk of flooding, especially in southwestern Oklahoma and northwest Texas, where the storms are expected to have the greatest impact from Saturday afternoon into the night.

Although the Kerrville area, which suffered heavy damage from recent flooding, is not at the center of the expected rainfall, it remains under a level 1 threat out of 4 due to uncertainty about the exact location of the storms. Local authorities and residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow weather updates to minimize risks.

Experts warn that high humidity and the slow-moving nature of the storms could create conditions similar to the recent catastrophic flooding in Texas, where more than 120 people died and hundreds were missing. Residents in at-risk areas are urged to take precautions, including avoiding low-lying areas and following evacuation instructions if necessary.

Authorities are working to improve warning systems after criticism of a lack of accuracy in previous forecasts, as residents of Texas and Oklahoma brace for a weekend of storms and a high risk of flooding.
