Sunak bets people's lives, immigrants are worth 1000 pounds to him

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak agreed to place a £1,000 bet with Piers Morgan on his Rwanda plan.

During an interview with Piers Morgan, Sunak said he will deport immigrants from Britain before the next election.

"I'm trying to convey my commitment, I don't like betting", said Sunak to "BBC".

Labor called it an insulting statement to immigrants and that he does not understand what he is working for.

Sunak dismissed suggestions that he did not understand the financial pressures ordinary families face. The bet, which will go to charity, comes on top of the £900 cost of living payments paid to families eligible for means-tested benefits.

The prime minister said he set a target to halve inflation by the end of last year due to cost of living pressures and inflation had come down from 11% to 4% which "eases the burden" on households.

It aims to prevent people from crossing the Channel and Rwanda's plan is a key part of Mr Sunak's pledge to stop the boats.

However, the plan has been blocked by legal challenges and no migrants have been sent to Rwanda.

"The bet shows my absolute commitment to this policy and my desire to pass it to parliament and make it work," said Mr. Sunak.

In an attempt to revive the policy, the government introduced legislation declaring Rwanda a safe country, but the bill must be approved by the House of Lords, where it has faced significant opposition, before becoming law.

The government has said it still aims for flights to start by spring.

"I'll bet you £1,000 that you won't send any refugee planes before the election," Piers Morgan told him.

Shaking hands with the presenter, Sunak told him that the first plane will be sent before the elections.

Opposition parties have criticized Sunak for placing the bet.

The SNP said Sunak's bet was a breach of ministerial rules.

The party's cabinet office spokeswoman Kirsty Blackman has written to the prime minister's independent adviser on ministerial interests, Sir Laurie Magnus, and Cabinet Secretary Simon Case, calling for an investigation into whether Sunak broke the Ministerial Code.

In her letter, she pointed out the rules that ministers of state must follow so that no conflict appears between their public duties and private interests and that they must not accept any gift that might appear to compromise their judgment or it places them under an undue obligation.
