A shooting occurred in Texas, USA, where 3 people, including the perpetrator, were killed and 14 injured.
The incident occurred on West 6th Street around 1 a.m. local time in the Austin neighborhood, as bars were closing. Police reportedly responded to the shooting at a popular bar and shot and killed the suspect. Officials said three of the injured people in the hospital are in critical condition.
According to authorities, police received a call about a gunman opening fire on the premises of Buford's Backyard Beer Garden, at the intersection of West Sixth and Rio Grande streets, downtown.
Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said officers responded immediately after the incident was reported.
"Officers immediately moved from East Sixth to West Sixth Street and confronted the armed individual. Three of our officers returned fire, killing the suspect," Davis said during a press conference Sunday morning.
Officials confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that the scene will take several hours to clear. "This is a tragic incident ," Davis said, adding that federal partners are also involved in the investigation.
The FBI's San Antonio division, which covers the Austin area, confirmed to CNN that it was involved in the investigation, without providing further details. According to local media outlet KVUE, the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force has also become part of the investigation, based on preliminary evidence collected at the scene.
Austin Mayor Kirk Watson also reacted during the press conference, expressing solidarity with the victims.
"Our hearts go out to the people who are victims of this tragedy. I want to thank the officers and public safety officials who quickly arrived at the scene. They undoubtedly saved lives," he said.
Authorities have not yet released the motive for the attack or the identity of the perpetrator, while investigations continue.
