The Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenkovic, in a statement to the media before the European Union Summit, has said that they want peace and de-escalation of the situation in the north of Kosovo.
He stated that the elections should be held in the four northern municipalities of Kosovo and that they should not be boycotted by the Serbian side.
"We want to de-escalate the conflicts, all these incidents, which happened in the last months and were not few, this is the first message. The second message is that we want to create preconditions for holding new elections in municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo, so that those elections are safe and we see participation in them. So, the last elections experienced a boycott, as far as I understand, I was in Podgorica a few days ago and I talked with the representatives of Kosovo, I also spoke with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Kurti, before this meeting to get a feeling, because last week I also talked with Prime Minister Bernabiç, so I have direct information from the leaders of one and the other side ", he said.
Plenkovic added that when the dates for holding the elections in the North will be set, official Belgrade should invite Kosovo Serbs to participate.
"There is a will to hold these elections, however, it is important to ensure participation in them. If it comes to boycott again, then we will have this situation, which is extremely unusual and bad. And that is why Croatia wants peace, wants de-escalation, wants to hold elections in which everyone will participate and come to the functioning that will be in accordance with the constitutional order of the country. Of course, I think it is crucial that if new elections are to be organized, Belgrade's message to the Serbian population in Kosovo should be to participate in those elections ," said Plenkovic.
