
Six people are suspected to have died today after a tourist submarine sank off the coast of Egypt. Nine others were reportedly injured, four of whom are in critical condition.
The submarine, called Sindbad, which was on a sea tour off the coast of Hurghada, was carrying a total of 44 passengers. So far, rescue services have managed to save 29 people.
The Red Sea Security Directorate has received a report of the sinking of a tourist submarine, located in front of the marina of a "well-known hotel", the name of which has not yet been revealed by local media.
21 ambulances have been dispatched to the scene and are transporting the injured to local hospitals. The 44 passengers are of various nationalities and were taking part in a sea excursion to see the coral reefs and tropical fish of Egypt.
This particular submarine has been operating tourist routes in Hurghada for several years. According to the company Sharm Hurghada Excursions, the underwater tour lasts three hours and costs 81 euros for adults and 42 euros for children. The exact cause and circumstances of the sinking have not yet been officially confirmed or announced.
